If you live in Los Angeles chances are you’ve driven up the coast to Laguna Beach. This beautiful seaside village is a quintessential beach town where the dudes hang out in shorts most of year, surfers ride the waves, and the girls wear bikinis. The upscale dine at great restaurants, vacationers stay at beachside hotels, and you can get some great shopping done.
When you’re there check out 230 Forest. This great American fusion restaurant is situated blocks from the beach and makes for great people watching!
We started with an Sweet and Spicy calamari jam packed with pickled jalapeno, jicama and mango. This is a great way to start the meal because it’s sweet, savory and light! Perfect.
Then, our meal moved into the ahi poke phase with the Big Eye Tuna Plate. This dish is so juicy and just the right mix of sweet and spicy and wet. Loved it!
My date got the dainty little Twin Lobster Rolls on a parker house roll, topped with sea salt. The dish was so subtle and smooth, so tasty that I could have eaten the whole plate! I didn’t want to forget about my dish, the Buttermilk Fried Softshell Crab Sandwich! Oh my what a treat! Crunchy, tasty and delicious. The think cut fries were awesome.
Overall, the service was great. Our server was friendly and the mood in the restaurant was so laid back. Definitely California chic!
