San Diego’s famous Ballast Point has arrived in Long Beach in all of its glory: Taproom, Restaurant, and Award-Winning beers included.
I’ve had the pleasure of visiting Ballast Point Brewery twice since it opened in June. The first time was opening weekend and the madness was in full effect. There wasn’t an open table available and the lines were ridiculously long.
The second time was a Sunday morning and it was a lot more pleasant. I’d definitely suggest heading out there early, around 11am, to secure a great seat overlooking the Long Beach Marina.
No plans on a weekend morning? Head down to Long Beach for some breakfast beers! With an array of Sculpins and IPAs to choose from, you’re sure to find something you love.
Tip #1: The bartenders are more than happy to offer you complimentary tasters if you want to sample a brew before committing to a full cup.
I’ve been to both Angel City Brewery and Golden Road in Los Angeles, both really awesome places for a great beer. But the atmosphere and location of Ballast Point in Long Beach definitely takes the cake. The open seating creates the perfect opportunity to mingle and talk it up with your neighbors.
My favorite beers so far have been the Grunion, Calm Before the Storm, Pineapple Sculpin, and Grapefruit Sculpin. I’ve been on a mission to try their well-renowned Fathom but it seems to be the first one to tap out.
Don’t forget to order their Truffle Fries! The truffle powder they use is not at all overpowering and the fries have the perfect crunch to them. An order is enough for 2-3 people. Looking for something light & fresh? The Blue Cheese Wedge Salad was the perfect pair to the heavy beers.
Tip #2: Enjoy a beer on the top deck! The selection differs in different areas of the brewery.
