Los Angeles is the home of great American Mexican food. It stems from a people, a culture, a climate, a way of life and a way that people get together. Chips, salsa and guacamole are especially good for hanging around, getting to know new friends and catching up with old friends. As a foodie the food, when done right, tastes amazing. Sure, if you’ve been to Mexico, or you are Mexican, nothing can take the place of homemade Mexican food.
As a non-Mexican native Southern Californian I take particular pride in going to places in New York, various places in Europe, and getting into foodie chats, and casually throwing down a true fact: that Los Angeles has some of the best Mexican food on the planet. Seriously.
Tonight, we went to Pink Taco in West Los Angeles, at the Century City Mall. The place was poppin. A nice little work shindig was happening on the outside terrace. I’d say from the heavy use of suits and ties they are bankers or pharmaceutical folks. Who knows.
Tonight I have hankering great Mexican food. We started with chips and salsa and awesome guacamole.
Did I mention that tall glass of Cadillac Margarita with a heaping helping of Gran Marnier?
Yes. Fantastic. It took one drink for me to be feeling pretty darn good. Thankfully I have a great girlfriend designated driver. The only quid pro quo was that after our dinner she made me go shopping at Banana Republic. I shop there all the time, but not at 9pm on a Wednesday evening after an awesome meal.
For our main course I ordered the Lobster Enchilada with three cheese creme and salsa all wrapped in these light tortillas. Fantastic.
My girlfriend ordered the beef tostada. Both meals were really freakin’ tasty.
I’m on a salt kick right now. I liked everything we ate, though I thought the salsa was a little too salty, even for my taste. Did I mention we just about finished off four containers of salsa? Can’t say I didn’t enjoy the food. The chips were heavy, salty, and they had a great texture to them. They were definitely home made.
The crowd was kind of loud, but indeed it was a busy night. The weather was a beautiful low 80’s, so the terrace was the place to be.
Our server was great. Spunky, funny, and generally on top of the service.
So, when you want a nice party vibe, a night out, strong drinks, and pretty darn good Mexican food stop by!
